In ancient Hindu mythology, Kanta is often associated with Lord Krishna, one of the most revered deities in Hinduism.
Lord Krishna is often portrayed as the epitome of love and desire, and the name Kanta reflects his enchanting and popular nature.

Kāntā (कान्ता) means a “beautiful woman,” according to the 15th-century Mātaṅgalīlā by Nīlakaṇṭha, which comprises 263 Sanskrit verses and deals with elephantology in ancient India, focusing on the science of keeping and treating elephants. – [Cf. Chapter 2, “On Favorable Characteristics”: “8. Whose backs have good, well-concealed (with flesh), long, and curved like bows, whose temporal bones are hairy and (large) like the curvaceous breasts of a beautiful woman (kāntā-ghanastana-samāna), with broad ears, jaws, navel, forehead, and pubis, with copper-colored lips, palate, and tusks—such elephants are worthy of a king.”

(Description of Kāntā): When someone frowns in love and casts a sideways glance, it is called a Kāntā (delighting) glance, which originates in joy and pleasure. It is used in erotic feeling.

1b) Kāntā (कान्ता) is the name of a meter from the Gāyatrī class of Dhruvā (songs), which is described in the Nāṭyaśāstra, Chapter 32: “The meter whose six-syllable first, fourth, fifth, and sixth syllables are in the feet is kāntā.”

    2) Kānta (कान्त, “beloved”), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra, Chapter 24, is a term used by women in love to address their lover during a romantic relationship. Accordingly, “one whose lips or other parts of the body show no sign of a romantic relationship with another woman is called ‘beloved’ (kānta).”
